During the January 6 insurrection, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was among the targets of the pro-Trump mob that stormed the Capitol. Pelosi drew the ire of many House Republicans, including that of Congresswoman Lauren Boebert, who released an attack ad towards the House Speaker.
Pelosi was the target of an ad released by Boebert this week. In the ad, Boebert called on the House Speaker to tear down the fencing placed around the Capitol. The ad concluded with the sound of a gunshot and the sounds of a gun being cocked and fired again. Boebert is known for making firearms a central part of her campaign, and the latest ad has critics questioning whether she is sending an indirect message to her supporters. The Colorado Congresswoman was under suspicion shortly after the insurrection for possibly informing the pro-Trump mob of Pelosi’s whereabouts on social media.
Demcast columnist David Weissman replied to Boebert’s tweet that included the video, asking if the gunshot was a threat aimed at Pelosi or Joe Biden. Former NBC Universal executive Mike Sington described the ad as “sick,” while another user touched on the FBI’s current search of people who were confirmed to be among the rioters as well as the people suspected of getting involved, attaching screenshots of Boebert’s tweets prior to the insurrection. One user reported Boebert’s ad to Twitter and notified the FBI.
Meanwhile, the House passed the final version of Biden’s $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package this week. Prior to the passage of the bill, Pelosi and other senior House Democrats praised the upcoming legislation that will be signed by Biden on Friday. Senate Democrats passed the bill during the weekend, but both chambers passed the bill along party lines, without support from their Republican counterparts. This also marks Biden’s first legislative achievement since taking office in January.
“It’s a remarkable, historic, transformative piece of legislation, which goes a very long way to crushing the virus and solving our economic crisis,” said the House Speaker. “I’m so excited, I just can’t hide it,” added Pelosi, as her colleagues also took turns highlighting parts of the bill and the impact it will have on the country.
